Despite its prominance and not be conscious choice, I’ve somehow managed not to read a single mechsploitation fic. Something that I’m hoping to change going forwards.

And gosh this was a really good start.

Sometimes you just click on a story link that was reposted onto your feed and go ‘oh, I get it now.’

For those not in the know, ‘mechsploitation’ is specifically a genre surrounding mech pilots (hounds) and their commanding officers (often ‘handlers’). There’s almost certainly a lot of interpretations of the genre and so I, as an outsider to that, do not feel very qualified to define it further, as I’m sure lots of other stories play around with a lot of themes that I’m completely unaware of.

But I’ve seen a lot of entities getting into it on my feeds and that sort of passion in creation always gets me very curious to explore it. It’s just exceptionally cool to me that these collaborative efforts in world building exist.

I’m also completely new to writing reviews and I don’t want to go into too much detail as to what happens in this, beyond it just conveying its story so exceptionally well and the tone of it all being incredible.

It’s just a really good one shot and I think does a very good job of highlighting the genre it belongs to.
